Notably, Yamuna River became one of the major poll planks in the run-up to Delhi Assembly elections with ruling AAP and Opposition BJP engaging in bitter verbal spat over its cleaning.

Yamun River's pollution became a hot topic during the recently concluded Delhi assembly polls where the AAP and the BJP were locked in an intense blamegame. 

Briefing about the progress in the Yamuna cleaning project, Saxena said that the work on cleaning the river has already begun with trash skimmers, weed harvesters, and a dredge utility craft already starting cleaning operations in the river today.

In her letter, Atishi alleged the role of the BJP government in Haryana in the crisis, stating, "The facts enlisted in the note of the CEO of Delhi Jal Board make it clear that the DJB Water Treatment Plants are designed to treat ammonia only upto 1 ppm level."

While addressing a public gathering in Mangolpuri Assembly Constituency, Yogi Adityanath attacked the AAP and said that the party will soon be ousted from the national capital and freed of its sins.    

The LG has instructed DDA to submit the preliminary report in this regard within a month. 

At the Kalindi Kunj area, worshippers performed the holy baths in the polluted river, raising significant health and safety concerns.

Delhi Floods 2023: In the last two days, there has been torrential rains in the upper reaches of the Yamuna. After this, the water level of Yamuna river in Delhi has crossed the warning mark of 205.03 metres. According to the website of the Central Water Commission, the water level at the old railway bridge rose from 203.48 meters at 3 pm on Monday to 204.94 meters at 6 pm on Tuesday. The flow at Hathinikund barrage in Haryana's Yamunanagar district was recorded at 30,153 cusecs, which is considered moderate during the monsoon season
