Amit Shah said that Narendra Modi as Gujarat Chief Minister appeared before the SIT over post-Godhra violence but the BJP did not resort to ‘drama or dharna’.
Amit Shah also referred to his facing arrest in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, in which he was subsequently acquitted, and said no "dharna" was carried out.
A Supreme Court bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar said on Friday that it found the appeal by Zakia Jafri was devoid of merit.

The Supreme Court Friday said disgruntled officers of the Gujarat government need to be in the dock for creating a sensation by making false revelations on the 2002 riots.
The top court also said it finds force in the argument of the State that the testimony of Sanjiv Bhatt was only to sensationalise and politicise the matters in issue.
The apex court said the present proceedings (by Zakia Jafri) have been pursued for the last 16 years including with the audacity to question the integrity of every functionary involved.

The wife of slain Congress leader Ehsan Jafri has challenged the SIT's clean chit to 64 people including PM Narendra Modi, the then Gujarat chief minister during the 2002 riots in Gujarat.

In 2012, Modi was cleared of complicity in the violence by a Supreme Court-appointed SIT which had questioned him for over 9 hours in the post-Godhra Gulberg society massacre case.

The case pertains to the alleged inaction in the 2002 post-Godhra riots including the attack on Gulberg Housing Society.

The SC-appointed SIT had earlier given a clean chit to PM Modi and 59 others in the case.

The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday deferred to August 21 the pronouncement of its order on a petition by Zakia Jafri, widow of slain Congress leader Ehsan Jafri, challenging a lower court order upholding a clean chit to the then chief minister Narendra Modi and others in the 2002 riots cases.
Zakia, the wife of the former MP, clearly expressed her "dissatisfaction" with the verdict saying that she had seen the violent crime.

The Gulberg massacre took place a day after a coach of the Sabarmati Express train was set on fire near Godhra, in which 58 people were burnt alive.
