France and Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane, who turns 50 today is a former professional footballer and manager. Zizou last managed Real Madrid and he became one of the most successful coaches of all-time. The former France international was magical in the mid-field during his time of playing and here we bring you five achivements of the France legend as a player and coach.

Zidane returned to Real Madrid in March 2019, replacing Santiago Solari, and won his second La Liga title in the Covid-affected 2019-20 season. In his first stint at the club from January 2016 to May 2018, Zidane won three Champions League titles and the 2016-17 Spanish league.

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has told his players he will leave the La Liga club at the end of the season, Spanish media reported late on Saturday. 

Zinedine Zidane`s side were missing seven players through injury and illness, including Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema and Casemiro. Real Madrid, who were beaten 4-1 by Valencia in their last La Liga fixture, are fourth in the standings on 17 points. While Villarreal are placed at the second spot in the La Liga standings, Real Sociedad are on top with 20 points.

Ramos went off at halftime in Madrid`s 1-0 La Liga defeat by minnows Cadiz last weekend and was also absent as they crumbled to a depleted Shakhtar Donetsk side on Wednesday. Real will be without a number of first team regulars for the trip to the Nou Camp, including Eden Hazard, Dani Carvajal, Alvaro Odriozola and Martin Odegaard. Barcelona, meanwhile, have the returning Jordi Alba available for the game, but will be without long-term absentees Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Samuel Umtiti.

Interestingly, both Barcelona and Real Madrid lost for the first time this season against modest Spanish league opposition ahead of their Champions League openers and their own Clasico clash.

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said he could ask for nothing more from his side after they recorded a third consecutive La Liga win by beating Levante 2-0 away on Sunday despite another unconvincing display. Real took an early lead through Vinicius Jr. but needed Thibaut Courtois to make a string of saves to hold on to their advantage before Karim Benzema sealed the three points with a goal in added time. Real won last season`s title thanks to a relentless run of 10 straight victories in which they rarely hit top gear and they have taken a similar path at the start of this campaign.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane on Sunday completed 100 La Liga wins as the club`s coach. Zidane touched the figure after a 3-2 win against Real Betis on Sunday. The Frenchman has won 55 home games while also winning 45 fixtures on the road, ever since first taking charge of the club in January 2016. The Frenchman, who won the La Liga in 2016/17 and 2019/20, has reached the milestone in his 147th game in the competition. He has the second-most league victories of any coach in the club`s history, bettered only by Miguel Munoz (257).

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said he did not say anything to Gareth Bale before he left to sign for Tottenham Hotspur but insisted he had no personal issue with the Wales forward. Bale travelled to London on Friday to finalise a return to Tottenham on loan after seven years at Real which witnessed a remarkable haul of trophies. While Bale was key to Real winning the 2016 Champions League in Zidane`s first season, he was absent from most of the second campaign due to injuries and never managed to re-establish himself as a first-choice player for the Frenchman.

Real ended the campaign on 87 points after the draw interrupted a run of 10 consecutive victories, five clear of second-placed Barcelona.

Zinedine Zidane`s side is now standing at the top of the La Liga table along with Barcelona on 65 points after 30 games.

The second leg of the last 16-tie between Manchester City and Real Madrid will be played on March 18. 

The draw ended a five-game winning streak in the league for the leaders and left them on 53 points after 24 games, one ahead of second-placed Barcelona.
