He was received by MEA's Joint Secretary at the Indian Ocean Region Division (JS IOR) Amit Narang.
During the UNGA elections, he got a whopping 143 votes in the 193 strong body.
India had strongly backed the candidature of Abdulla, with the announcement first being made during foreign secretary Harsh Shringla's Maldives visit in November.

India has backed Maldives Foreign Minister's candidature for the President of United Nations General Assembly for 2021-22 period.
Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla said, "We feel that the Maldives should play a more prominent role in the UN.
He said, "I thank all our partners who have generously extended financial, material and technical support during this crisis, even when they themselves are going through challenging times."
Adding, "One such example is India. The recent budget support of 250 million US dollars, was the single largest financial assistance from a donor during this pandemic."
Earlier this month, India had formally extended the $250 budgetary support or loan at a ceremony in Maldivian capital Malé in the presence of Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer, Indian High Commissioner Sunjay Sudhir and CEO of SBI in Male, Bharat Mishra.
During the meeting Pompeo hailed the signing of a memorandum of understanding to enhance aviation security and an intent by USAID to facilitate sustained collaboration with the Maldives.
