At present, a vehicle license plate - which is attached to vehicles bearing its official registration number, commonly known as "a number plate" - is procured by various states separately from designated agencies.

The Supreme Court on Thursday will pass judgement in connection with the BS-III vehicles ban.

All new car models will have to come with ABS as standard from April 1, 2018. Mandatory for every car a manufacturer sells from April 2019. 

Just like credit cards, smartphones or search engines, autonomous cars will carry a trove of information about their owners as they make driving more comfortable, raising new concerns about privacy.

Automakers may have to cough up a stringent penalty of Rs 100 crore and compulsorily order a recall for faulty designs and absence of necessary safety features in their vehicles.

According to the industry estimates, the order has led to an immediate impact on 'thousands' of diesel vehicles, including high-end cars, that have already been booked by the customers in Delhi by making full or part payments and the process was underway to deliver those vehicles and get them registered.  

One of the biggest scandals in the history of the automobile sector came to light after German carmaker Volkswagen admitted it had fitted 11 million of its vehicles with software designed to cheat official checks.

When it comes to dashboard displays that are more like smart phones, two things are clear: Customers want them, and automakers are intent on supplying them.

Market leaders Volkswagen AG and General Motors show no sign of letting up on their planned investments, while Toyota Motor and Ford Motor are also pursuing new China expansion plans.
