Following initial discussions, the ACC agreed to hold only one match, Pakistan vs. Nepal, in Pakistan. However, after productive negotiations between former Management Committee chairman Najam Sethi and ACC officials, Pakistan's hosting rights were expanded.

To resolve this issue, Sethi has proposed a "hybrid model" to host the Asia Cup, where India will play its matches at an offshore venue.

Imran Khan, who served as Pakistan's Prime Minister between 2018-2022, accused the BCCI of dictating world cricket due to their financial power.

India last visited Pakistan in 2008 for the Asia Cup, and the last bilateral series on Pakistani soil occurred in 2006.

Asia Cup 2022 is set to be held in Pakistan while ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will be hosted to India.

Chopra said that India will have its way with the Asia Cup, because of the country's financial might, and the event is likely to be postponed.
