Turkish authorities have detained three people linked to last year`s deadly attack on a Berlin Christmas market, local media reported Monday, saying the suspects were headed to Europe.

Anis Amri, the Berlin Christmas market attacker, was a "ladies man" before he became radicalised inside an Italian prison, a woman at whose house he stayed has claimed.

"A lot speaks for that in the investigations so far," ZDF said of the possibility that Anis Amri, a failed asylum seeker from Tunisia, obtained the gun in Switzerland.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned on Friday of an enduring terror threat, despite the killing of the suspected perpetrator of the Berlin Christmas market attack.

"The Berlin attacker carried out a new attack against an Italian police patrol in Milan and was killed in an exchange of fire," the IS-linked Amaq agency said.

US President-elect Donald Trump called the attacks this week in Berlin and Ankara "terrible" on Wednesday and said he has been proven to be correct about his plans to impose curbs on Muslims immigrating to the United States.
