Chikungunya outbreak News
ASM Alamgir, Senior Scientific Officer of Bangladesh's disease monitoring arm, Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), has confirmed the outbreak, bdnews24 reported.
Amid rising cases of dengue and chikungunya in the national capital following the outbreak, the Delhi High Court will on Tuesday day hear the matter in connection with the growing mosquito-borne menace.
The Delhi government has ordered inspection of construction sites and its residential colonies here to check breeding grounds for mosquitoes as it gears up to prevent possible outbreak of dengue and chikungunya.
The moves aims at curbing mosquito breeding in comparatively unhygienic areas and slums alongside the railway lines in the national capital.
Resolute on his stand, Delhi`s Health Minister, Satyendra Jain, has reiterated that Chikungunya cannot cause deaths, and added that this is a fact that is available on Google, and not his opinion.
Till date, chikungunya, which was first reported in 1952, has claimed 12 lives in the national capital this season.
Taking plenty of fluids in the form of water, soups, dals and broths can help flush out virus fast from the body.
Ever since the monsoon season hit Delhi, it has led to a staggering rise in mosquito-breeding because of which, dengue and chikungunya are spreading like wildfire.
Usually, chikungunya joint pain lasts for about a week or two. However, in some cases it can also persist for months or even longer.
Symptoms of chikungunya virus infection include fever, joint pain, headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, or rash.
