A new study by Japanese researchers uncovers how a viral enzyme in Covid-19 helps it evade immune defenses, making it more infectious than SARS and MERS.

Most children infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus develop a mild illness or show no symptoms at all. But for a small percentage, serious complications may develop, said the study. 

"Long COVID is a major public health concern. Twenty-three per cent is a very high prevalence, and it may translate to millions of people," said study. 

‘COVID-19: The race to finishing line’, published by SBI Research, stated that vaccination is the only saviour as global data shows that, on an average, the third wave peak cases are around 1.7 times the peak cases at the time of second wave.

The data came from an Indian branch of IQVIA, a U.S.-based health information technology company. The researchers determined that a total of 16.29 billion doses of antibiotics were sold in India in 2020 The researchers noted that India also had restrictions and experienced dramatic decreases in malaria and other such diseases

Women, youth, and persons of low socio-economic status may be especially vulnerable to COVID-related psychological trauma. Stress and anxiety can also weaken the immune system.

During the survey, it was found that 65 per cent elderly respondents were facing neglect in their life.

Authors Dalgleish and Sorensen wrote in their paper that they had prima facie evidence of retro-engineering in China for a year The study alleged "deliberate destruction, concealment or contamination of data" at Chinese labs

It said it "is a huge risk" to solely rely on these models for policy decisions on advance planning since predicting infectious diseases for a new pathogen is an "extremely perilous proposition" and hence it should be avoided.
