In the wake of the devastation left by Cyclone Amphan in West Bengal which left around 80 people dead, the state is working hard to restore its essential services at the earliest. The state has deployed as many as 2.35 lakh police personnel and state officials for their services. 

A sum of Rs 1,000 Crores has already been released to the state government after the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who made an aerial survey and reviewed the relief efforts with the West Bengal government. 

The Maharashtra government on Sunday also announced that it will allow 25 passenger flights to take off from and as many to land in Mumbai starting May 25.

Cyclone-battered Odisha has received Rs 500 crore from the Centre as advance assistance for restoration work, a senior official said.

The army carried their own equipment like JCB, cranes, and cutters.

Earlier on Saturday, the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said on the power outrage, "I would urge all to not engage in politics in the present times. Yes, there is power outage but Calcutta Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) is not under the state govt. It is a private company but we have been telling them for three days to restore power."

Kolkata; West Bengal BJP president and MP Dilip Ghosh on Saturday alleged that he was not allowed to visit the cyclone-ravaged areas of the South 24 Parganas district, triggering a war of words between the saffron party and the ruling TMC.

As per the agency, heavy to very heavy rainfall in these areas, particularly Alipurduar, Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri are expected to have maximum rainfall activity, from May 24th, 2020 onwards. 

The West Bengal government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to the Indian Railways urging it not to send Shramik Special trains to state till May 26 in view of Cyclone Amphan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an advance interim assistance of Rs 1,000 crore for the state.

After the aerial survey, PM Modi chaired a meeting in Bhubaneshwar with the senior state and central government functionaries to review the situation.

Other Bollywood celebrities have also expressed their concern for the residents of cyclone-affected areas on social media.

The leaders of the 22 parties, who met through video-conferencing, passed a resolution in this regard and said relief and rehabilitation should be the topmost priority at this juncture.
