Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the Defence Expo 2022 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that there are demand, democracy and decisiveness in India. Talking during the inauguration of the biennial mega defence exhibition show ‘DEFEXPO 2020’ in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow, PM Modi revealed that there is massive scope for defence manufacturing in the country. PM Modi has also asserted that India can no longer rely only on imports.

The five-day DefExpo, which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday in the presence of Union Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh, will conclude on February 9.

Listing his government's initiatives to promote defence production in India, Modi also accused the previous UPA government of policy paralysis in the defence sector, which he said affected the country's military preparedness.

With a tagline 'India: The Emerging Defence Manufacturing Hub', the DefExpo will help brand India as a defence exporter of defence systems and components.

Taking note of overpricing of stay and other commodities during recently concluded Defence Expo, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has said that his ministry may ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with various stakeholders to curb it if the mega event is held again in Goa next year.

 India's Defence Procurement Policy (DPP) would be launched online during Defence Expo India-2016, to be held in south Goa from tomorrow, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said.

Amid allegations of land acquisition by the Opposition, the BJP in Goa on Saturday said that it stands by the state government's decision to hold Defence Expo in the state.
