Maharashtra’s ruling party Shiv Sena has announced that it will field a candidate to take on former Bihar police chief Gupteshwar Pandey in th upcoming Bihar assembly election 2010.
It may be recalled that Pandey had raised questions over Mumbai Police’s probe into Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death and later joined the ruling Janata Dal (United) after taking voluntary retirement from the service.
Shiv Sena leader Anil Desai alleged that Pandey used Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case for political advantage.
The Maharashtra-based party is also likely to contest on 50 assembly seats in Bihar
Ex-DGP Bihar Gupteshwar Pandey met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday.
Pandey’s meeting with Kumar triggered intense speculation about his joining the ruling Janata Dal-United led by the Chief Minister.
His meeting with Kumar came days after he took voluntary retirement from the state police service and triggered speculation of contesting the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.
When quizzed by reporters, Pandey said, “I came here to meet CM Nitish Kumar and to thank him as he gave me absolute freedom to serve my duties as DGP.” He added, “I have yet not taken any decision on contesting polls.”
