The government has asked stent manufacturers to maintain uninterrupted supply of coronary stents by invoking emergency clause in public interest.
The development came after the government had last week slashed prices of stents by up to 85 per cent by capping them at Rs 7,260 for bare metal ones and Rs 29,600 for the drug eluting variety.
Prices may come down of 56 important medicines used in treatment of cancer, diabetes, bacterial infections and high blood pressure, with the government fixing their ceiling prices under the drug pricing control mechanism.
