Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in a written reply said that the decision to freeze three instalments of DA/DR to Central Government employees/pensioners due from 01.01.2020, 01.07.2020 & 01.01.2021 was taken in the context of COVID-19 which caused economic disruption so as to ease pressure on the Government finances.

The Central government employees and pensioners’ salaries and pensions are all set to increase. The DA and DR will now be paid at a rate of 31% of the basic pay and pension, respectively. Previously, the government was paying DA and DR at a rate of 28% of the basic and pension, respectively.

7th Pay Commission: Central government employees could get 3% DA hike soon

The Central government has also increased the House Rent Allowance (HRA) from 24% to 27%. The Centre could soon announce a further 3% hike in the DA and DR. With the speculated hike, the DA will be increased to 31% of the basic salary.

The 3% DA hike has been assumed based on AICPI data for the month of January to May 2021. The Central Government recently restored the pending DA hike for the last 18 months.
