 The high-level panel on 'One Nation, One Election' has recommended holding simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies.

The report, comprising 18,626 pages, is an outcome of extensive consultations with stakeholders, experts and research work over 191 days, since the constitution of the High-Level Committee on September 2, 2023.

The Union Law Ministry conveyed that the Election Commission wants to utilize the Aadhaar database to ensure the preparation of an error-free electoral roll and prevent the duplication of entries.

Naqvi said that there is a need for paramount and path-breaking reforms in the electoral process of the country He said that 'one nation, one voter list' and 'one nation, one voter card' will solve the problem of different voter lists for various elections He lauds former PM Vajpayee for various electoral reforms in 2000 including the introduction of EVMs

The Electoral Reform Bill will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha today, but before that there was a ruckus. The meeting has been adjourned till noon.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to call an all-party meeting on electoral reforms and funding.

The Election Commission has told a parliamentary committee that it does not support state funding of elections but instead seeks "radical" reforms in the way funds are spent by political parties.

The plea has sought "lifetime time ban" against convicted person from contesting elections, forming political party and becoming party office-bearers.
