The scheme is for a period of five years from April 1, 2019, with a total budgetary support of Rs 11,500 crore. The scheme incentivised e-2Ws, e-3Ws, e-4Ws, e-buses and EV public charging stations. 

The models are the Genesis GV60, Hyundai's Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, and Kia's EV6 and EV9. The same models also received top-tier ratings in crash evaluations conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States. 

 Under the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024,  significant incentives under the budget of Rs 500 Crore, are offered for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, to boost the adoption of green vehicles.    

To bridge this prevailing gap between EV and ICE vehicles, a multidimensional approach by the government is crucial.

With fuel prices exceeding Rs 100 per litre, purchasing a less expensive electric vehicle makes even more sense to save some money. The government has also introduced a tax advantage of up to Rs 1.5 lakh for first-time buyers who take out a loan to buy an electric vehicle. In the long run, an electric scooter is clearly more cost effective than a fuel scooter.

The maximum subsidy cap is also increased to 40 per cent of the e-two-wheeler cost. Previously, it was 20 per cent of the price. The scheme is now running till March 31, 2024.
