Top-ranked Novak Djokovic will resume his pursuit of an 18th Grand Slam title when he takes on Sweden`s Mikael Ymer in the first round at the French Open on Tuesda Djokovic had started as a heavy favourite to win the title at the US Open but was disqualified from his fourth-round match against Pablo Carreno Busta after inadvertently striking a line judge in the throat with a ball. Six-times Grand Slam champion John McEnroe said Djokovic had shown strength of character to respond so positively to his New York debacle.

Osaka swept aside Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the summit showdown of the 2020 US Open to clinch her second title at Flushing Meadows.

Second seed Dominic Thiem dismantled Australian Alex de Minaur 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the U.S. Open. Thiem needed a little over two hours to record the win under the closed roof of Arthur Ashe Stadium despite being put under constant pressure by De Minaur. Dominic Thiem will now meet Russian Daniil Medvedev for a place in his fourth Grand Slam final.

German fifth seed Alexander Zverev reached the US Open semi-final with a 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(1), 6-3 victory over Croatian Borna Coric in the quarters. Zverev reached his second Grand Slam semi-final this year and became the first German male to reach the last four at the US Open since Boris Becker in 1995. He will now face Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in the semi-finals on Friday.

Naomi Osaka`s looked solid as she defeated American Shelby Rogers 6-3 6-4 and entered the semi-finals of the US Open on Tuesday. Osaka improved on her 0-3 record against Rogers with the straight sets victory as she continues her bid for a second US Open title. Next up for Osaka is in-form American Jennifer Brady, who beat Kazakhstan`s Yulia Putintseva in straight sets earlier in the day.

The 27-year-old Austrian is bidding for his maiden Grand Slam singles title at the US Open this year.

Serena Williams survived a third-round scare at the US Open to topple 2017 champion Sloane Stephens 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Williams, 38, dropped the first set but a dramatic fightback ensured that she kept alive her bid for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title. Serena is chasing her 7th US Open title and next faces Greek Maria Sakkari, who beat her in the third round of the Western & Southern Open just 10 days ago.

Murray, the 2012 US open champion, was contesting a singles match at a major for the first time since the 2019 Australian Open. The 33-year-old Briton appeared to be heading for an early exit after losing the first two sets but launched a thrilling fightback to complete the win in 4 hrs 38 mins.

Sumit Nagal defeated Bradley Klahn of USA 6-1, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the first round of US Open and thus became the first Indian to win a singles main draw Grand Slam match in last seven years. After securing his first Grand Slam win, Nagal said he will never forget the game as it was a special moment for him. Nagal, the world number 122, will now face Austria`s Dominic Thiem in the second round of the US Open on Thursday.

Kim Clijsters fell at the first hurdle in her second comeback at US Open when she lost 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 to Ekaterina Alexandrova. The Belgian made a strong start to her first singles match at Flushing Meadows in eight years but was ultimately well beaten by the Russian 21st seed. Clijsters, who won two of her U.S. Open titles after her first comeback in 2009, is still without a win since coming out of retirement for the second time in February.

37-year-old Kim Clijsters will return to the Flushing Meadows next week in a bid to repeat her feat of 2009, where she won the US Open after a two-year retirement The Belgian, a four time Grand Slam champion, retired for the second time in 2012 but returned to professional tennis this year. Clijsters faces a tough draw at the US Open 2020 and doubts remain about her fitness as she withdrew from the Western & Southern Open with injury.

World number one Djokovic will play Bosnia`s Damir Dzumhur in his opening match at Flushing Meadows. Dominic Thiem, seeded two in the absence of reigning champion Rafa Nadal, opens against Spaniard Jaume Munar. Serena Williams plays compatriot Kristie Ahn in round one but a meeting with Sloane Stephens, seeded 26th, is likely in round three.

The US Open, which will be the first Grand Slam of the year for players amid coronavirus, will take place from August 31 to September 13 Nishikori said he recently underwent COVID-19 test in Florida which came out to be positive Nishikori's isolation will end on August 26, less than a week before the 2020 US Open

Osaka becomes the first Japanese woman to reach the last four at Melbourne Park since Kimiko Date in 1994.
