Gajendra Chauhan courted controversy recently over Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Earlier this year in February, Chauhan slammed international singer Rihanna for tweeting on Indian farmers' protest.

“I condemn her act. I just want to tell Rihanna 'shut your mouth'" Chauhan said. Chauhan further said, “I am sure she does not know anything about the issue. So, why did she tweet then?” Chauhan acted in BR Chopra's 'Mahabharata' in 1988.

For the uninitiated, the cast of 'Mahabharat' was called to Kapil Sharma's show recently in one of the special episodes in which Mukesh Khanna was not present. 

Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) director Bhupendra Kainthola on Wednesday expressed gratitude to Anupam Kher for always having an empathetic ear to the concerns and issues surrounding the institute.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher, who was appointed Chairman of the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on Monday, said he will try to perform his duties to the best of his abilities.

The veteran actor has replaced the controversial chairman Gajendra Chauhan, whose appointment created a ruckus with students protesting against it.

Anupam Kher also held the post of chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification and the National School of Drama in India.

The Pune-based Film and Television Institute has adopted a slew of tough measures aimed at creating a peaceful environment for its students.

The Governing Council of Film & Television Institute of India (FTII) Tuesday approved new syllabus and a plan to turn it into "a holistic institute of cinema, television and allied arts" with introduction of new courses.

FTII students' association had alleged that Gajendra Chauhan lacked vision and stature to head FTII.

Police is all set to register chargesheet against 35 FTII students for allegedly gheraoing the institute's director Prashant Pathrabe.

Shatrughan Sinha said he had been willing to accept the post of 'interim chairman' of the institute and had even demanded a proper letter to the effect.
