Ritika had trained under Dronacharya Awardee Mahabir Singh Phogat, who was also reportedly present at the tournament. She was a student of the Mahabir Phogat Sports Academy. Phogat sisters (Geeta and Babita) became a household name after winning Gold and Silver medals respectively in the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi.

Geeta Phogat's son, Arjun, was born on December 24 in 2019.

Phogat got married to fellow wrestler Pawan Kumar in November 2016.
