Go First Insolvency: Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said it is incumbent upon airline to make alternative travel arrangements for passengers, so that inconvenience is minimal.

Amid cash crunch, Go First, a Wadia-group owned airline has submitted a detailed report to aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

IndiGo got the biggest market share in the domestic aviation sector by carrying 68.47 lakh air passengers during January, while Air India and Vistara carried 11.55 lakh and 11.05 lakh passengers.

The GoAir Bengaluru-Patna flight with 130 passengers managed to land safely at Jayprakash Narayan International Airport after a bird strike incident, reports IANS.

The airline "continues to assess the current market situation and will align its cost structures with the current flight operations These are planned furloughs in order to minimise cash burn so that the staff count is aligned to the current scale of operations, said a company statement The airline industry has been grappling with strong headwinds due to the coronavirus pandemic, with many of the carriers laying off people as part of cost-cutting measures

In July this year, occupancy rate in SpiceJet was 70%, while other major airlines IndiGo, GoAir, Vistara, AirAsia India and Air India stood at 60.2%, 50.5%, 53.1%, 56.2% and 45.5%, respectively A total of 19.84 lakh passengers travelled domestically in June this year. GoAir is the third domestic carrier after Vistara and IndiGo to come out with such an offer. Passenger will have to shell out additional cost for a safe air travel. GoAir also announced the launch 'Online Doctor Consultation' facility in association with MFine, an on-demand healthcare platform.

GoAir on Wednesday (June 10) issued a GoAlert for all flights that the airline has been authorized to operate by the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). 

Flight activities have been halted in India since March 25 due to the nation-wide lock down to contain COVID-19 pandemic.  

Vistara has instituted a compulsory leave without pay for up to six days in April for senior employees, while AirAsia India last week cut the salaries of senior employees by up to 20 per cent.

The aviation regulator has asked airlines to cease all news bookings and intimated to them that instructions regarding commencing of operations will be given in due course of time.

In March, the Wadia Group-owned airline asked its employees to go on LWP on a rotational basis besides cutting their salaries.

A GoAir spokesperson said that it has already "factored in" this type of scenario and that the airline will review its earlier scheme of providing rescheduling free of cost at a later date while protecting their existing bookings for one year.

India suspended all flights on March 24 in a bid to stem the spread of coronavirus. On March 27, the suspension was extended till April 14. 

India is under a 21-day lockdown till April 14 to combat coronavirus and all domestic and international commercial passenger flights stand suspended during the period.
