The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has said that all the 12 crew of the cargo ship MV Kanchan, off Gujarat, have been rescued. The ship had been dead in the water after contamination in the fuel leaving its engine defunct and the vessel without power supply.

New Delhi:  As Cyclone Tauktae continues to impact several states on the Western Coast including Gujarat, damaging structures, electricity lines, and uprooting trees, the India Meteorological Department on Tuesday (May 18) informed that the cyclone is continuing to show a weakening trend.

Over 1.5 lakh people were evacuated from low-lying areas along the western coast as a powerful Cyclone Tauktae is expected to make landfall in Gujarat by Monday. Tauktae has now become a “very severe cyclonic storm" and is likely to intensify even further in the next 24 hours.
