With the bar on heights of human pyramids relaxed by the Bombay High Court, the celebrations were organised with full gusto in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar, Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur, Nagpur and other major cities.

The court was on Monday hearing two petitions filed by city residents, raising concerns over the participation of minors in the festival and lack of safety measures, due to which several untoward incidents occur.

India`s Supreme Court on Aug. 17 upheld a lower court`s decision banning youths under 18 from participating in the ritual and restricting the height of the human pyramid to 20 feet (6 m).
Last week, the SC said youth below 18 years of age cannot participate in the popular ritual, part of Janmashtami festival, in Maharashtra and the height of the human pyramid cannot exceed 20 feet, a limit fixed by the Bombay HC.

The Bombay High Court had in 2014 ordered that the height of human pyramids should not exceed 20 feet in the Dahi Handi function.
