Former US National Security Advisor (NSA) John Bolton said, "The risk to the US of another 9/11 is very real." Bolton added that "there are already reports of thousands of foreign fighters coming back to Afghanistan."

The departure of John Bolton removes one of the strongest advocates of a hard line towards Iran from President Donald Trump`s White House, and raises the prospect of steps to open up negotiations after more than a year of escalating tension.

John Bolton, a leading foreign policy hawk who was Trump`s third national security adviser, was widely known to have pressed the president for a harder line on issues such as North Korea.

US national security adviser John Bolton departed on Saturday for a trip to Japan and South Korea as the two countries are in the middle of a trade dispute. 

The spokesman said Bolton, who last week said the recent tests "no doubt" violated U.N. Security Council resolutions. "His claim is indeed much more than ignorant," the spokesman added. "Our military drill neither targeted anyone nor endangered the surrounding countries, but Bolton makes dogged claims that it constitutes a violation of the `resolutions`, impudently poking his nose into other`s internal matters." 

A statement issued by state news agency KCNA quoted a foreign ministry spokesman as saying that giving up missile tests would mean giving up the right to self defence.

China has said that it is in everyone's best interest to avoid war and for peaceful relations to exist between neighbouring countries. China is also the country that recently, and once again, vetoed move to designate Masood Azhar as a global terrorist.

The pledge to dismantle it had been seen as a confidence-building measure between Pyongyang and Washington.

His comments came days after the Feb. 27-28 denuclearisation summit between Trump and Kim broke down over differences on how far North Korea was willing to limit its nuclear programme and the degree of US willingness to ease sanctions.

Ajit Doval and John Bolton held talks about the prevailing situation between India and Pakistan following the Pulwama terror attack and the Indian air strike in retaliation for the incident.

The NSA has long been a sceptic of a diplomatic resolution to North Korea`s nuclear threat and made clear that Kim was yet to take concrete steps towards denuclearisation.

US NSA had called his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval and expressed his deepest condolences over Pulwama attack.
