The first case of COVID-19 infection from the coronavirus variant from South Africa has been detected in Karnataka, the state health department said in its bulletin on Wednesday (March 10).
As per results of tests done on international passengers till March 10, one person was tested positive for the South African strain of COVID-19 virus, the health department added.
The Karnataka government on Saturday made it compulsory to produce a negative RT-PCR report for the persons arriving in Karnataka from this state.
The negative RT-PCR certificate should not be older than 72 hours.
Out of the 6,317 fresh cases reported on Monday, 2,053 were from Bengaluru urban alone
As of August 17 evening, cumulatively 2,33,283 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 4,062 deaths and 1,48,562 discharges
It said that out of 80,643 active cases, 79,948 patients are in isolation at designated hospitals and are stable, while 695 are in Intensive Care Units
