Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has released its report on the Air India Express plane crash at the Kozhikode airport in August 2020. It said that the pilot's non-adherence to the standard operating procedure was the probable cause behind the incident. While trying to land at the airport amid rain, the aircraft overshot the runway and later broke into pieces.

The DGCA has barred the operation of wide-body aircraft at Kozhikode airport this monsoon "out of abundant caution", a senior official said. The decision was taken four days after a narrow-body B737 aircraft of Air India Express overshot the runway and crashed at the Kozhikode airport. Asked about the duration of the ban, the DGCA official said, "No date has been fixed."

Maharashtra Chief Minister's Office (CMO) on Tuesday (August 11) said that the government has decided to accord state funeral to late Wing Commander (Retd) Captain DV Sathe. The Maharashtra CMO said in a tweet that Captain Sathe's life will keep on inspiring young pilots to achieve Sword of Honour and command over skies. It is to be noted that Captain Sathe was flying Air India Express plane that crash-landed at Kerala's Kozhikode Airport on August 7.

The cricket fraternity has come in unison and expressed shock and grief over the recent Air India Express plane crash accident, which claimed the lives of 18 people and left several others seriously injured.

DGCA Director Arun Kumar on Sunday said that the black box of Air India Express flight that crash-landed at Kerala's Kozhikode Airport on August 7 has been brought to Delhi and will be examined at DGCA lab. The DGCA chief said that after Mangalore air crash, suggestions were given by a committee regarding table-top runways and it was suggested by the committee to improve the pavement strength of Kozhikode airport. He added that the committee has also suggested to increase the runway and safety area of the airport.

Binoy Viswam said over the past two years, the entire Air India organization has been severely affected by the Government's decision to privatise the airline. President of Alliance Air Employees Union Binoy Viswom said that the incident is heart-wrenching and a cause of deep sorrow. Binoy said that the matter should be investigated to prevent any such incidents in the future.
