Bone-chilling cold it might be but for tourists, snowfall in India's hill stations brought about excitement and cheer  

The minimum temperature in Kufri of Shimla district and Manali of Kullu district was recorded as minus 1.1 and minus 0.4 degrees Celsius respectively, the weatherman added.

Himachal Pradesh continued to reel under intense cold wave conditions with the India Metereological Department on Tuesday issuing a fresh avalanche and heavy snow warning in parts of the state.

The cold wave has covered most parts of the country and it is expected that it will snow today in areas of Himachal Pradesh.

Districts in Himachal Pradesh, where the sex ratio is higher, reported fewer sexual assault cases against women, according to a study by the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory here.

It`s April and large parts of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday saw cold conditions with the minimum temperature staying close to freezing point owing to widespread snowfall in higher reaches, weather officials said.

The entire tribal belt of Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, Pangi and Bharmaur and upper areas of Shimla, Kullu and Sirmaur were cut off from rest of the state while mid and higher hills today received second heavy snowfall of the season and the lower hills experienced widespread rains.

The hills of Himachal Pradesh has been experiencing long sunny days but chilly nights, a weather official said here on Saturday. There are no chances of rain in most of the prominent tourist destinations for almost a week.

Intense cold wave accompanied by dry spell continued in Himachal Pradesh as mercury stayed below freezing point at most places in the state.

Voting began on Friday for the second phase of Himachal Pradesh panchayat elections amid tight security.
