The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the amendment in the Modified Special Incentive Package Scheme (M-SIPS) to further incentivise investments in electronic sector and moving towards the goal of ‘Net Zero imports’ in electronics by 2020.
Government has received investment proposals worth over Rs 25,352 crore for electronics manufacturing in the country under the two schemes launched by the government to boost domestic production of such goods.
Prasad said the government is working on expansion of telecom services, incentives for chip-making units in certain cities and the setting up of postal banks.
