Semiconductors play a crucial role in sectors such as electronics manufacturing, digital transformation, defense, aerospace, renewable energy, IoT, healthcare, automotive and research. 

On the 10th anniversary of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, S. Krishnan, Secretary, IT Ministry, emphasised that electronics has emerged as one of the most impactful sectors.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the amendment in the Modified Special Incentive Package Scheme (M-SIPS) to further incentivise investments in electronic sector and moving towards the goal of ‘Net Zero imports’ in electronics by 2020.  

Total investments in electronics manufacturing sector in India, one of the world's largest consumer electronics market, has crossed Rs 1.28 lakh crore, Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said Tuesday.
