In a significant development, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday (July 29) decided to change the name of Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) to Ministry of Education. The change in the name of the ministry was approved during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The HRD Ministry is currently headed by former Uttarakhand chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

The Centre's announcement is likely to give a major boost to the development of various sectors including education, tourism, infrastructure and create job opportunities for thousands of educated but unemployed Kashmiri youths.

The PM will interact with a cross-section of students and teachers from India and abroad on how to handle exam stress around 11 am January 20, 2020.

The MHRD also asked the UGC to bear the cost of service and utility charges for the hostel residents in JNU.

After speaking to a JNU delegation, MHRD Secretary Amit Khare on Thursday said that the January 5 incident of violence is upsetting, adding that the MHRD is trying to address grievances of the students.

Speaking on the turn of events at JNU, Amit Khare said that what happened was extremely sad and that students had a lot of grievances.

It is submitted that no permission to the police to enter inside the campus or library was given by university authorities, the varsity said in its report.

Four members of Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU) including president Aishe Ghosh, vice president Saket Moon, general secretary Satish Chandra, joint secretary Mohd Danish on Monday met Ministry of Human Resources and Development joint secretary and put forward their demands to put an end to the ongoing protest by certain section of JNU students.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has decided to drastically cut down the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus.
