This is the fifth increase in milk prices since March, with the cumulative hike now totalling up to Rs 9 per litre, or 16 per cent, by Mother Dairy -- one of the leading milk suppliers in Delhi-NCR with volumes of more than 30 lakh litres per day.

Before the new year, the common man has got a shock of inflation. Mother Dairy has announced to increase the price of milk by Rs 2 per liter in the Delhi-NCR region. The new prices will be applicable from Tuesday.

Amul on Saturday announced a hike in the prices of its milk by Rs 2 per litre across the country. The prices will come into effect from Sunday (December 15, 2019). The price of Amul Gold will be Rs 56 per litre and that of Amul Taaza will be Rs 44 per litre.

While the supply of state-run Aavin-milk packets were totally hit, a packet of one litre milk sold by private suppliers was priced at Rs 90, whereas 1 kg tomato was available at Rs 80/90.  

Major milk suppliers in the Delhi-NCR region, Amul and Mother Dairy, Tuesday said they do not have any plan to increase retail milk prices in the near future though procurement cost has gone up.

With onion and milk prices showing an upward cue, the government today said it is closely watching the trend and will take appropriate steps to ensure adequate availability of these commodities in the domestic market.
