In order to achieve the target of “Housing for All” in rural areas, the Ministry of Rural Development is implementing Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G) with effect from 1st April 2016, according to the Minister of State for Rural Development Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani.
With an aim to achieve the objective of providing “Housing to All” by the year 2024, the Central Government had rolled out the rural housing scheme --Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) --with effect from 1st April 2016.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reacting to the central team's visit for rapid checking of PMAY-G houses said, "The Centre must stop politics ... Ask it to release the funds for the 100 days' scheme."

The program envisages the completion of 2.95 crore PMAY-G houses with all basic amenities by the year 2024. As on 21st February 2022, a total of 1.73 crores PMAY-G houses have been completed against the allocated cumulative target of 2.62 crore houses.
The function will also witness traditional celebrations with conch, lamp, flowers and rangoli being organised in new houses across Madhya Pradesh.
Union Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh and Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Dev were also present on the occasion.
The concept of a "kaccha" house (one with buildings made of bamboo, clay, grass, flax, stones, mulch, crop leftovers, and other materials) has been altered specifically for Tripura.
The PMAY-G was established with the goal of providing pucca houses to all homeless poor people in rural areas.

Union Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also be present on the occasion.
PM Modi will participate in ‘Grih Pravesham’ and inaugurate 1.75 lakh houses built under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) in MP on September 12.
All of these houses have been built/completed during the current COVID-19 pandemic period. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister will also be present on the occasion.
A total of 32.14 lakh houses were completed in fiscal 2016-17 out of a total of 44 lakh houses approved for the same period.
