The first Indian-American woman to serve in the US House of Representatives, she was re-elected to her fourth term in Congress during the November 8 midterm polls.

"The day we're inaugurated, we're going to ask you to mask up for the next 100 days. This is not a political issue," Biden said. A record number of 12 Indian-Americans are in the fray for the November 6 mid-term Congressional elections.

Washington Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, a fast-rising Democratic star, has featured in the Politico magazine`s "Power List for the year 2018" for having assumed the mantle of a House "leader of the resistance".

That number is expected to increase to five if Democratic Congressman Ami Bera is declared elected for a third consecutive term after a recounting of votes. 

India-born Jayapal made a mark with her progressive agenda in the Washington State Senate.
