Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be visiting Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district on Monday, will launch several rail projects and will also flag off a weekly Shabd Bhedi Superfast Express train playing between Ghazipur and Kolkata. 

The CCEA chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi have given green signal the massive line expansion programme that involves track construction of a total length of 1937.38 km at an estimated cost of Rs 24,374.86 crore.

With a view to ensure greater participation of states, Union Cabinet on Wednesday allowed the Railways to form Joint Venture companies with state governments to mobilize resources for speedy implementation of rail projects.  

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu Monday asked all PSUs under the ministry to undertake more rail projects while ensuring best practices in tendering process and transparency in their functioning.

With an aim of making railways an engine of growth, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu Tuesday vowed d to involve states in execution of projects as he pitched for big investments for the turnaround of the "bleeding" and "sinking" largest transporter of the country.

Expressing serious concern over the financial health of Indian rail, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday said it was "too close for comfort" and there was a need for massive investment in the sector.
