Since unmanned level crossings are responsible for maximum number of train accidents, the railways intends to eliminate all such crossings on broad gauge section by 2020.  

Railways launched RailCloud this month, a virtual server with an inbuilt security system that will enable faster connectivity at a reduced cost.

"Tomorrow is going to be a historic day for the Indian Railways when Tejas Express, which boasts of ultra-modern amenities on board will make its maiden run from Mumbai," DK Sharma, general manager of the Central Railway, said.

"Our focus is on improving passenger experience. Through these measures, we have fulfilled the long-standing demand of the commuters," he said after inaugurating the projects through video-conferencing at the Rail Bhavan here.

"With the construction of the rail line, Char Dham Yatra will become more comfortable and convenient for pilgrims," Prabhu said.

The initiative was taken by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu as many parts of his home state are reeling under a severe water crisis, especially villages in Latur district that has a population of around 2.45 crore.

Shan-e-Punjab Express, which was flagged-off by the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday, has become the first Indian train fitted with CCTV surveillance cameras.

The launch of Nizamuddin-Agra Gatiman Express, the first semi-high speed train to run at a maximum speed of 160 km per hour, today is the beginning of the execution of the Railways' ambitious aim to increase the speed of the trains.

The survey was conducted in line with the announcement made in the railway budget 2016-17.
