Nadal and Federer share a rivalry dating back to 2004, and while they were the fiercest of rivals on the tennis court, they remain the best of friends off it. Federer first faced Nadal in 2004 at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami. They clashed a further 39 times over the years, competing against each other in 24 finals.

Not to forget, Agassi was in the last phase of his career when Federer came in and won many matches against him. Agassi knew what was coming for the tennis fans. His words indeed appear true for Federer was a world class player. 

Among the 'Big Three', Rafael Nadal has the maximum number (22) of Grand Slam trophies.

Like how writer Ruskin Bond put in one of his stories, it is not the time that is passing by, it is you and I. Federer realises he cannot give anymore to tennis as a player. Bu promises, in his retirement note, that he will never leave the sport. 

Former Indian cricket captain and star India batter Virat Kohli was one of those athletes who looked up to Federer for inspiration.

Tennis legend Roger Federer retires: He wrote a long retirement note to thank a list of people including his wife, parents and fans. 

Federer also had said he would return to tournament action at the Swiss Indoors in October. Federer posted his news on Twitter, saying his farewell event will be the Laver Cup in London next week. That is a team event run by his management company.
