The Kanwar Yatra is an annual Hindu pilgrimage undertaken by devotees of Lord Shiva, known as Kanvarias or Bhole. It’s considered the holiest month for Lord Shiva in the Hindu calendar. Lakhs of devotees travel barefoot for miles, carrying sacred water from holy rivers to offer at Shiva temples.

Shivaratri which falls during Shravana month is known as Sawan Shivaratri. The entire month of Sawan or Shravana is dedicated to worshipping Lord Shiva; therefore, the Shivratri that falls on Sawan is considered highly auspicious.   

While fasting, it's important to consume nutritious and healthy foods to maintain energy levels and stay nourished. Here are some healthy vrat recipes you can try during the month of Sawan:  

Sawan 2024: The month of Shravana begins on July 22, 2024, and it will conclude on August 19, 2024. Here are some rules to follow during fasting- from avoiding garlic and onions to replenishing the body with juice and water.  

First Sawan Somwar 2024: Shravan starts this year on July 22, 2024 with the first Sawan Somwar fast on July 22, 2024.  

Sawan falls during July and August, coinciding with the onset of the monsoon season in India. The period is dedicated to worshipping Lord Shiva as well as Goddess Parvati.
