World number one Ash Barty booked her Adelaide International semi-finals spot with a comfortable 6-3 6-4 victory over Sofia Kenin on Friday, January 7.

World No. 1 and 2021 French Open champion Novak Djokovic and former winner Andy Murray had contrasting fortunes in round two of the ongoing Wimbledon 2021 in London. Djokovic cruised past former nemesis Kevin Anderson in straight sets while 2013-winner Andy Murray had to battle in five sets against unseeded Oscar Otte to keep his run alive. Former No. 1 Karolina Pliskova advances to the third round at the Australian Open by beating American Danielle Collins, a semifinalist at Melbourne Park in 2019, 7-5, 6-2. Barty followed up her 6-0, 6-0 drubbing of Danka Kovinic in the first round with a much tighter 6-1, 7-6 (7) win over fellow Australian Daria Gavrilova. American Shelby Rogers advances to the third round at the Australian Open for the first time by beating qualifier Olga Danilovic 6-2, 6-3.

The woman Kenin defeated for the title in last year’s final in Melbourne, two-time major champion Garbine Muguruza, also advanced to the second round, defeating Margarita Gasparyan of Russia 6-4, 6-0. Muguruza dropped only 11 points in the second set and improved to 9-0 in first-round matches at the Australian Open. A seeded woman exited the tournament when Ann Li, a 20-year-old American, defeat No. 31 Zhang Shuai 6-2, 6-0 in just 47 minutes to improve to 5-0 this season.

Sofia Kenin joyously lifted her maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open but eight months later the American was left crying in her courtside bench as she watched 19-year-old Iga Swiatek being crowned French Open champion.

19-year-old Iga Swiatek beat Sofia Kenin 6-4, 6-1 to win her maiden Grand Slam title on Saturday (October 10). Swiatek etched her name in history by becoming the first Polish player to win a Grand Slam. Swiatek, 19, also became the youngest French Open champion since Rafael Nadal in 2005.

American tennis star Sofia Kenin will square off with teen sensation Iga Swiatek in the summit showdown of the women's singles event of this year's French Open at the Philippe Chatrier Court on Saturday.

World number one Djokovic will play Bosnia`s Damir Dzumhur in his opening match at Flushing Meadows. Dominic Thiem, seeded two in the absence of reigning champion Rafa Nadal, opens against Spaniard Jaume Munar. Serena Williams plays compatriot Kristie Ahn in round one but a meeting with Sloane Stephens, seeded 26th, is likely in round three.

Top seed Karolina Pliskova and number two seed Sofia Kenin crashed out of the Western and Southern Open on Sunday. Czech Pliskova lost 7-5, 6-4 to Russia`s Veronika Kudermetova, while Australian Open champion Kenin lost 6-1, 7-6(7) to France's Alize Cornet. The Western and Southern Open is a key tune-up event to the upcoming US Open, beginning from August 31.

21-year-old Kenin has captured her first Grand Slam title of the career besides also becoming the youngest American since Serena Williams in 2002 to lift a major crown. 

Sofia Kenin will be making her debut in a Grand Slam final when she faces Garbine Muguruza for the Australian Open title on Saturday but what she lacks in experience the American more than makes up for in courage and confidence. Muguruza has been in three previous Grand Slam finals, winning two of them at Roland Garros (2016) and Wimbledon (2017), while the 21-year-old American had been beyond the third round only once - beating Serena Williams at the 2019 French Open before losing to Ash Barty in the next round.

Kenin will now lock horns with the winner of another semi-final clash between former World No.1 Garbine Muguruza and reigning Wimbledon champion Simona Halep. 

In a major upset in the Australian Open Women's Singles, American Sofia Kenin reached the tournament final after defeating Australia’s Ashleigh Barty 7-6(6) 7-5 on Thursday. Kenin, seeded 14th in the tournament, now awaits the winner of the Simona Halep versus Garbine Muguruza match in the final. Halep faces Muguruza in the second semifinal of Australian Open eomen's singles later on Thursday.

Sofia Kenin kept her game neat and tidy to see off big-hitting Tunisian Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4 at the Australian Open on Tuesday and reach her first Grand Slam semi-final.

Madison Keys will now square off with Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia in the final.  

Osaka, who made back-to-back quarter-final finish in Toronto and Cincinnati, will now shift her focus on the US Open, which is slated to take place from August 26 in New York. 

By registering her first win over seven-time major champion Williams in three years, Madison has now set up a semi-final clash against 20-year-old Sofia Kenin of America for the second time in this year. 

Williams won the last of her 23 major singles titles at the 2017 Australian Open.
