Swami Sivananda, a 125-year-old yoga guru from Kashi, on Monday received his Padma Shri award from President Ram Nath Kovind for his contribution to the field of Yoga.

In a tweet, the Mahindra Group Chairman heaped praise on the 125-year-old yoga practitioner, saying that “his grace and dignity was both humbling and inspiring.” India’s top business tycoon also said that he is “proud to belong to a country from where Yoga originated.”

Swami Sivananda, the 125-year-old yoga legend and Padma Shri recipient, leads a simple life, eats a simple diet serves others with his selfless service. In his childhood, poverty made him sleep empty stomach many times, while the rest of the time, his family could afford to feed him boiled rice and water.

Today, President Ram Nath Kovind has honoured all such people of the country with Padma awards, who have enhanced the country's honour in art, music and other fields. One of them was 126-year-old Swami Sivananda of Varanasi, who was honoured with the Padma Shri award today. When he walked barefoot on the splendid red carpet of President House, the whole country was proud. Before receiving the award, Swami Sivananda also paid obeisance to Prime Minister Modi. After which Prime Minister Modi also bowed his head in front of him and thanked him and accepted his greetings.
