Kamal Haasan's remark that Kannada was born from Tamil sparks backlash. CM Siddaramaiah said he lacks historical knowledge of the Kannada language.  

The Opposition DMK in Puducherry staged a protest against the alleged imposition of Hindi in JIPMER Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan held discussions with officials, before insisting there was no such imposition

The statement has sparked outrage in several states of the country, including Tamil Nadu.

PMK leader S Ramadoss said "Mother tongue must be the medium of instruction as far as practicable" He urged the state government to bring in legislation making Tamil as a compulsory medium of instruction in a phased manner

A notification was issued on October 12, 2004 by the union government giving Tamil the classical language status.

The director wants her to learn the language so that she pronounces the dialogues well to be presentable on screen.

Opposing what it called "wanton thrusting" of Hindi by the Centre, DMK on Friday announced holding state-wide seminars against it and decided to rope in youngsters and students to create an upsurge against the alleged move.
