Assam on Thursday bade an emotional farewell to its beloved Tarun Gogoi, state's longest-serving chief minister.
His mortal remains were consigned to flames by his son Gaurav Gogoi, amid chanting of hymns, preceded by a gun salute and band played by the Assam Police.

The mortal remains of Tarun Gogoi will be cremated on Thursday in Guwahati, Assam.
The body will be taken to his official residence at Dispur from the hospital.

Tarun Gogoi, former Assam chief minister, died from post-COVID complications.
He was arguably one of the most popular leaders and had once said, "I am a Congressman and will be so till the last breath of my life."

Tarun Gogoi was undergoing treatment at Assam's Gauhati Medical College Hospital for post-COVID complications.
The health condition of Gogoi had deteriorated CM Sarbananda Sonowal had said earlier.
