A CBI official and his crony, who allegedly manipulated Tatkal ticket reservation system of the railways through an illegal software developed by the former, were operating at pan-India level, officials said here today.

CBI software programmer Ajay Garg is alleged to be the brain behind subverting railways reservation system. The software once installed on the agents computers needed a user name and password. He used a complex chain of Indian and foreign servers to facilitate his operations.

CBI has arrested its assistant programmer Ajay Garg and his front, Anil Gupta, for developing and distributing the software to agents for a price.

Passengers booking tatkal train tickets would not be required to produce identity proof anymore as Railways have decided to discontinue with this provision.

Booking of Tatkal tickets under the new schedule introduced by the railways started at 10 AM on Monday.

The timings for booking Tatkal tickets in AC and non-AC classes will change from June 15 as the Railways has staggered the schedule to reduce the load on the ticketing site and booking windows.

As per the new schedule, booking for AC classes will commence at 10 am and close at 11 am while for the non-AC classes, booking will commence at 11 am and close at 12 pm.
