Telecom service providers News
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) recently launched an indigenously-developed International Incoming Spoofed Calls Prevention System, along with all telecom service providers (TSPs).
The industry is also concerned over the present definition of Gross Revenue (GR), as it covers revenue from all telecom activities.
These TSPs have tied up with original equipment manufacturers and technology providers -- Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and C-DOT.
In addition, Reliance Jio Infocomm will also be conducting trials using its own indigenous technology, said an official statement.
The permissions have been given by the DoT as per the priorities and technology partners identified by TSPs themselves.
The adjusted gross revenue (AGR), on which telecom operators pay licence fees and other charges, reduced by 17.55 percent to Rs 41,668.84 crore in the reported period compared to Rs 50,539.2 crore in the September quarter of 2016, the regulator's performance indicator report said.
Nearly 60 percent people are still facing frequent call drops, with most of them experiencing problem indoors, found a survey by the Department of Telecom (DoT).
Regulator TRAI on Tuesday stressed the need to identify bottlenecks that make the functioning of telecom business difficult in India and listed out processes such as licence acquisition, spectrum allotment and mergers that can be reviewed.
In its guidelines, Trai said that as third party entities like websites and applications are non-licensed entities and are appointed by telecom service providers, operators are responsible for ensuring compliance of regulatory norms.
Telecom regulator Trai on Friday permitted increase of validity for mobile data packs to 365 days, from the current up to 90 days, to boost usage by marginal consumers and also attract first-time Internet users.
Hitting back at the Congress, the government on Friday said the alleged 'telecom scam' was the UPA regime's "sin" that the present dispensation has to clean and it will do "every bit to recover every single penny".
Most telecom service providers failed to meet the call drop rate threshold of less than two percent in the national capital region (NCR) during a recent test drive, TRAI data revealed.
The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a batch of petitions filed by various telecom companies, including Vodafone and Bharti Airtel, seeking extension of their spectrum licences.
Government has asked telecom firms to implement full mobile number portability by May 3, a move that will enable subscribers to retain their numbers when they shift to other states or licensed service areas.
