Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) Managing Director, Sunil Sharma said that the employees were not asked by TSRTC to go on strike and they decided to abstain from duties on their own.
The employees of state-owned Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) called off their 52-day long strike on Monday.
Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) employees Joint Action Committee (JAC) convenor Ashwathama Reddy was taken into custody by police from his residence at Urmila Nagar area on the outskirts of Hyderabad and shifted to government-run Osmania Hospital.
According to the police, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of TSRTC employees supported by some frontal organisations of Maoists and their friendly organisations like PDSU, RSU and opposition political parties had sought permission to stage the `Chalo Tank Bund` protest. However, the request was turned down by the police.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday slammed senior officials of Telangana police for allegedly 'manhandling' its MP in Karimnagar Bandi Sanjay who was participating in a peaceful march mourning the death of a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) employee in Telangana's Karimnagar town's Arrepally village.
The agitated workers rubbed their nose on ground one by one to mark their protest stating that they have made a mistake by casting their votes in the favour of the K. Chandrashekar Rao's government.
The High Court granted conditional permission to Joint Action Committee (JAC) of striking employees to hold a public meeting at Saroornagar in Hyderabad on Wednesday. JAC approached the court after the police denied permission for the same.
JAC convenor Ashwathama Reddy said, "This government does not have humanity. They are running the government with the force through police. Due to such statements given by the Chief Minister people are losing lives. All these incidents are not suicides but the murders committed by the government."
The court was informed that the salaries of the employees were hiked by 67 per cent since the formation of Telangana state. They were given 44 per cent fitment in June 2015, which imposed a burden of Rs 900 crore annually. In July 2018, 16 per cent interim relief was provided to the employees at an additional cost of Rs 200 crore.
On 15th day of their indefinite strike, over 48,000 employees along with leaders and activists of opposition parties, trade unions, teachers and workers took to streets to protest what they call 'dictatorial' attitude of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.
The High Court suggested to the government to invite the striking employees for talks and also advised the employees to call off the strike and hold talks with the government. The court further asked the government to first appoint a Managing Director for the TSRTC to take the employees into confidence.
Srinivas Reddy had on Sunday succumbed to his injuries at a Hyderabad hospital after receiving 80 per cent burns. He had immolated himself on Saturday during a strike of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).
