The Manipur government is not considering any reversal of the decision, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said on Sunday in reply to the United Naga Council's demand for rollback of the creation of the seven new districts in the state.
The newly appointed Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today initiated the process to lift the over four-month long economic blockade in the state, a BJP leader said.
Manipur`s new Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Wednesday said his first priority is to get lifted the indefinite economic blockade of the state imposed by the United Naga Council (UNC).
The United Naga Council (UNC) which has been continuing a blockade in two national highways in Manipur since November 1, has said it would oppose Congress in the Assembly election to be held on March 4 and 8.
With Manipur going to polls on March 4 and 8, political parties have a host of issues to contend with.
The possible reason for this seems to be opposing the creation of new districts by the state government.
The UNC had imposed the indefinite blockade on November 1 in protest against the government`s plan to create two new districts.
BJP spokesperson N Biren appealed the UNC to withdraw the blockade which entered its 56th day today and sought "another forum" to achieve its demands.
The UNC has accused the Ibobi Singh government of not consulting Nagas, who inhabit the areas, before deciding to upgrade them as districts.
