The Unnao rape victim died on Friday night after being set on fire by men accused of raping her. On Thursday, when the woman was on her way to a local court for the hearing of a rape case she had filed earlier, she was attacked by five men who later threw kerosene on her and set her ablaze. She had suffered 90 per cent burn injuries and was airlifted to Delhi for treatment.

The Uttar Pradesh government is ready for a CBI probe into the accident of the Unnao rape victim, who had accused a BJP legislator of rape, if a request is made, Director General of Police O P Singh said on Monday. A car in which the woman, her family and lawyer were travelling was hit by an overspeeding truck in Rae Bareli on Sunday, killing two members while leaving her and the advocate critically injured, police had said. The woman, who had accused Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Kuldeep Sengar of rape, was provided with three security guards but they were not accompanying her as there was no place in the car, the DGP said. Prima facie, it appeared to be an accident and an "unbiased" probe is on, Singh said.

Hours after Unnao rape victim was critically injured after a truck rammed into the car she was travelling in, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav alleged that it could be a conspiracy to murder the woman. The Unnao rape victim, who had accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar of raping her, was travelling to Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh along with her lawyer, Mahendra Singh, and two relatives when the accident happened. After a truck collided with the Unnao rape victim's car, both her relatives succumbed to their injuries. The woman and her lawyer, Mahendra Singh, were taken to King George Medical University (KGMU) Trauma Centre in a critical condition. They are currently undergoing treatment. Akhilesh Yadav said that the Unnao rape victim's accident is a serious case and could be a conspiracy to murder her.
