A federal judge delivered a mixed order in one of the key court cases in the shutdown of USAID, saying the administration could no longer simply sit on the billions of dollars that Congress had provided for foreign aid — but stopping short of ordering Trump officials to use the money to revive the terminated programs.
The Trump administration outlined its plans in both the memo and court filings on Wednesday.
For the financial year 2023-24, an obligation of a total of $97 million (about Rs 825 crore) has been made by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) under the seven projects, the Finance Ministry report stated.
The move comes after a federal judge on Friday allowed the administration to move forward with its plan to pull thousands of USAID staffers off the job in the United States and around the world.
Two current USAID employees and one former senior USAID official told The Associated Press of the administration's plan.
