The US-India passing exercise off the Andaman and Nicobar coast in Malacca Strait is going to send out a strong message to China. The Indian Navy had recently conducted similar passing exercises with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and French Navy. The USS Nimitz is also the world's largest warship armed with F/A-18F and F/A-18E Super Hornets.

USS Nimitz is named after US World War II Pacific fleet commander Chester W Nimitz and the country's third fleet admiral. The warship has a crew of over 6000 including Navy personnel, the air wing and marines with almost 90 aircraft including fighters. Its air wing includes Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornets, F/A-18E Super Hornets, McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornets

Even as China continues to indulge in reckless adventurism along its borders with different countries including India, two aircraft carrier strike groups of the United States of America conducted a two-day wargame near China's maritime boundary in the Philippine Sea. The two Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers - USS Theodore Roosevelt and USS Nimitz - strike groups commenced dual carrier flight operations in the Philippine Sea on June 21, 2020, and concluded the same a day later on June 22.
