India imported 1.55 mln tonnes of edible oils in the month of December, a 22 per cent increase on a yearly basis. The overall import of vegetable oils during the first two months of oil marketing year 2022-23. India is the world`s second-largest consumer and number one vegetable oil importer, and it meets around 60 per cent of its need through imports.

International air carriers must reduce their carbon emissions to almost nothing by 2050, according to a goal set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in October 2022.

The base import tax on crude palm oil has been slashed to 2.5% from 10%. The tax on crude soyoil and crude sunflower oil has been reduced to 2.5% from 7.5%. India fulfils more than two-thirds of its edible oil demand through imports.

India's palm oil imports rose by 23 percent to 7,34,358 tonnes in June against the year-ago period on account of lower global prices, Solvent Extractors' Association (SEA) said Wednesday.
