The power consumption increased by 50 per cent since the easing of lockdown restrictions on May 18.
As per the new rates, the fixed charges up to 2 kilowatts (kW) has been reduced from Rs 125 to Rs 20, while the charges above till 5 kW has been cut from Rs 140 to Rs 50.
Delhi had witnessed an all-time peak demand of 6526 MW on June 6, 2017, at 15:31 hours
Reacting to the DERC's decision, the Aam Aadmi Party Government said it will ask the regulator to review the hike as it will put additional burden on the consumers.
The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has hiked the power tariff in Delhi by upto six percent effective from Monday.
