Food waste is a critical issue impacting both the environment and global food security. Every year, millions of tons of edible food end up in landfills, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, resource wastage, and financial loss. Despite ongoing efforts to reduce waste, some countries still rank high in food wastage due to various cultural, economic, and logistical factors.
Every year about 7 thousand crore kg of food is wasted in the families of India. This happens in a country where 19 crore people are forced to sleep hungry. For this, the government has now decided that children will be taught lessons in schools to prevent the wastage of food.
Two days from now, on 29th September, the whole world will celebrate International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste. On this day, people will be made aware to stop the wastage of food and drink and this awareness campaign has been going for the past 3 years. But alas, people have a bad habit of leaving food on their plate and this habit is not ending anytime soon.

The new study, published in the journal PLOS ONE, is the first of its kind to follow adult eaters through their normal day-to-day eating patterns.
The study estimated that the cold chain market in India valued at $167.24 billion in 2016 was projected to reach $234.49 billion by 2020.
